Invasion of the field and throwing of smoke bombs
Supporters invaded the lawn of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium and threw horizontal smoke bombs after the barrage lost Sunday evening by Saint-Étienne against Auxerre (1-1 / 1-1, 5 tab to 4), which relegated the Greens in League 2.
After the winning shot on goal sending Auxerre to Ligue 1, spectators entered the field and some threw smoke bombs at the benches, the players of both teams taking refuge in the locker rooms.
The police also entered the field and used tear gas to disperse the crowd, according to images broadcast by Prime Video.
A journalist from the broadcaster also spoke of “panic movements” in the stands.
Footage from the locker room hallway showed players, stewards and staff coughing from tear gas. Prime commentators also went into coughing fits.
The Saint-Étienne club has been sanctioned several times this season by the Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League for the behavior of its supporters.
The shoot-off against AJA was also played with a closed stand, for throwing smoke bombs during the ASSE-Monaco match at the end of April.
