As part of the Action Cœur de Ville plan, Autun launched jointly with the State, the Habitat and Humanism association and Action Logement, the rehabilitation project of the former Saint-Gabriel Hospital. The health establishment ceased its activity in 2012, since the hospital center carried out the restructuring of its services.
The redevelopment project, which is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2027, involves the installation of 33 apartments, including 25 housing units for people with reduced mobility. Added to this are several common areas, reserved for residents and all Autunois. Among them, a common room with a capacity of up to 70 people and the “Cube”, an 800 m² space, which will host a digital campus. In addition, the chapel will be transformed into an auditorium for small events. In addition, a large car park and a plastic arts school will also be created.
At the end of the 3D projection of the plans of the Intergenerational residence and the social areas, a visit to the site was scheduled. In addition to Vincent Chauvet, several elected officials were also on site, including Cathy Nicolao-Verdenet, 1st deputy mayor in charge of the Heart of the City Action Plan, Françoise André, deputy in charge of Works, Monique Gatier, deputy for Social Affairs and Neighborhood Policy and Vincent Vautrin, municipal councilor.
