Autumn eve and high yeast blues – sounds like a great combination, doesn’t it? Such an opportunity will be offered very soon, on October 26, at the VEF Culture Palace, where the event will take place “Bai Kamara
Jr & Voodoo Sniffers” Afro-Blues concert. Read on and find out why you should definitely get tickets for this concert in time!
Bai Kamara Jr. is a musician whose work is permeated by a mix of different cultures
Born in the tropical Sierra Leone, a West African country only slightly larger than Latvia, raised and educated in the United Kingdom (where, by the way, the musician’s first songs were also written), and spent more than three decades in the capital of Belgium, Brussels – that’s how motley Bai Kamara Jr’s life has been so far. This is also reflected in the musician’s work, in which a fusion of different cultures and sounds can be heard.
If we try to characterize the creative activity of Bai Kamara Jr. in terms of genres, we must mention not only blues (especially Afro-blues), but also soul music and, of course, jazz. He has shared the stage with other internationally known musicians including Habib Koité, Rokia Traoré, Cassandra Wilson, Dani Klein of Vaya Con Dios, and to many other widely acclaimed artists.
A sneak peek into Bai Kamara Jr’s prolific discography
The events and concerts at which Bai Kamara Jr performs are so special not only because of the musician’s charisma, charm and musical talents – his discography is also wide and varied. The first albums were released in the last century as part of the group “Odex Protocole” – “The Lay Your Body EP” and “Delivery Day!”. In the early 2000s, Bai Kamara Jr. released his first solo album, Living Room, followed by four more great records, Urban Gipsy, Disposable Society, This Is Home, and Mystical Survivors.
In the midst of all this, in 2007, within the framework of the “15:15” project, the album “Stoned Love” was released. In it, Bai Kamara Jr. together with Nader Hamid (Nader Hamid) created a much rockier sound than we are used to hearing in his work. In January 2020, the musician’s first Afro-blues album “Salone” was released, dominated by a bluesy mood intertwined with Bai’s personal story. The album has been highly appreciated by both listeners and critics around the world.
Bai Kamara Jr.’s latest work “Traveling Medicine Man”, which came out very recently, in the spring of this year, is no less high-quality. The album received praise from many authoritative music publications and critics, as well as listeners.
