Autumn concert in the Baden-Baden Autobahn Church – Spirituals from America and Africa

Baden-Baden, October 21, 2024, report: editorial team The Baden-Baden Spiritual and Folklore Choir invites you to its autumn concerts on November 9th at 7 p.m. in the Autobahnkirche St. Christophorus and on November 10th at 4 p.m. in the Weinbrennersaal, Kurhaus Baden-Baden.

For the current concert program, choir director Axel Schweikert has put together 15 old and new spirituals from America and Africa, “sometimes full of swing and joy of life, sometimes full of melancholy, but always carried by joy and trust in God,” the choir reveals.

The further message from the Spiritual and Folklore Choir Baden-Baden from October 18, 2024 in full text:

The title song “It is well with my soul” was written by the American lawyer Horatio Spafford. Spafford had lost a large part of his fortune in the great Chicago fire of 1871, and in 1873 he lost all four daughters in a ship collision on the voyage to Europe. Unlike his Presbyterian home community, he saw no punishment from God in the misfortune that had befallen him. Deeply believing that nothing can separate man from the love of God, he overcame grief and made the tragedy a turning point in his life. Together with his wife, he emigrated to Palestine and founded the “American Colony” in Jerusalem, a non-denominational Christian association that, throughout its existence, was committed to the welfare of the citizens of Jerusalem, regardless of their religious affiliation.

In order to ensure that joy is not neglected in addition to contemplation, lively traditional songs such as “Who will be a witness?”, “Down by the riverside”, “In that great gettin’ up mornin’” and South African gospels provide colorful accents the rain blues.

Marie-France Steiner and Dennis Seiter provide the lead, the choir is supported instrumentally by Christine Hermatschweiler on piano, Gebhard Lohmüller on bass and Thomas Schweikert on drums and percussion.

Entry costs 16 euros for adults and 11 euros for schoolchildren and students. Advance sales at Autobahnkirche: This email address is being protected from spambots.
