Automotive. Partial unemployment in forge, foundry and mechanics at Stellantis Mulhouse

The management of the Mulhouse site of Stellantis, formerly PSA, announced on Wednesday the use of short-time work, for two days, for forge, foundry and tool factories. The announcement was made at an extraordinary meeting of the Social and Economic Committee. The employees of the forge will not work this Thursday and Friday and the measure will apply Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 September for the employees of the foundry and tooling.

This recourse to short-time working is the consequence of the disruptions caused by the supply problems of electronic components which affect the global automobile industry and severely disrupt assembly plants, particularly in Europe. However, the forge, foundry and mechanical factories of Stellantis Mulhouse supply all the factories of the group born from the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler last January.

New methods of partial unemployment

The situation is fragile but the activities of the Mulhouse terminal plant, which assembles the DS7 Crossback, Peugeot 508 and now the new Peugeot 308, should proceed normally over the next few days. Suspended two weeks ago, the creation of a second team is still suspended to the improvement of the situation in terms of supply of electronic components.

This decision comes the day after the favorable opinion, by four trade unions (CFE-CGC, FO, CFTC, CFDT) out of five (the CGT voted against), of the new long-term partial activity scheme applying to the group scale. Which is more favorable than the metallurgy branch agreement limited to 70% of gross salary and 84% net. “Employees who have reached the low modulation threshold or work daytime hours are the first to use this new device. Without this agreement, technicians and supervisors would have lost 10% more of their remuneration during each non-working session “, summarizes Laurent Gautherat, leader of the CFE-CGC and secretary of the central CSE, who considers that” these cuts of Unfortunately, this activity is likely to last at least until the end of the year ”.
