Automobile: Sales of new cars down slightly

Sales of new cars in Morocco stood at 48,948 units during the first four months of 2024, down 0.71% compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Association of Motor Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).

By segment, new registrations of private vehicles (PC) fell by 3.08% to 43,647 units, while light utility vehicles (LCV) sold amounted to 5,301 units (+24.29%), specifies the Association which has just published its monthly statistics. The “Dacia” brand dominates the passenger car segment, with a market share of 27.5%, or 12,004 new registrations at the end of last April, followed by Renault which sold 6,333 units (market share of 14.51%) and from Hyundai (3,629 units and 8.31% market share). As for light utility vehicles (LCV), Renault increased its sales by 70.25% (1,505 units), or 28.39% market share and Ford saw its sales increase by 101.38% to 729 units, or 13.75% market share.

On the premium side, Audi reached a market share of 3.3% with 1,440 cars sold, ahead of BMW (a market share of 2.74% and 1,198 units) and Mercedes-Benz (a market share of 2.24% and 976 units).

For its part, Porsche sold 217 units at the end of April 2024, up 29.17% year-on-year, while Jaguar sales decreased by 2.63% to 37 cars.
