One would have thought that environmental standards and the ecological penalty would have the skin of sports cars.
With its new Peugeot Sport Engineered label, Peugeot intends to prove the opposite. At the Brussels Motor Show, the manufacturer presents a 508 PSE, an ultra sporty vehicle, without penalty and soon available. What reshuffle the cards and finally compete with the Germans.
A 508 developed by Peugeot Sport
This concept derived from the series 508 prefigures the high-performance electrified label for series vehicles developed by Peugeot Sport.
It is derived from the 508 Hybrid sedan which has just debuted and marks the manufacturer’s arrival in the hybrid segment.
This sports 508 benefits from a specific treatment. Front bumper, radiator grille, body panels fitted with trim tabs, fins in the quarter panels, new rear diffuser have been revised to improve the aerodynamics of the Peugeot sedan.
The shade “Selenium Gray” varies according to the light thanks to pearly particles. The “Kryptonite” inserts, fluorescent touches running through the body, signify the concept’s belonging to the PSE line.

Leading performance
We owe this concept to the engineers of Peugeot Sport and sport, there will be some.
Peugeot announces exceptional performance comparable to that of a 400 hp thermal vehicle.
This power is transmitted to 4-wheel drive to guarantee faultless traction.
The design of this hybrid is original with the combination of 3 engines: a 200 hp PureTech petrol engine and two 110 hp electric motors at the front and 200 hp at the rear.
After decades of chasing the mighty German sedans, the Lion finally seems to have the weapons to fight with Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz.

The penalty? I do not know
Apart from its aesthetic arguments, and its sporty cavalry, this 508 can count on the unanimously recognized qualities of its chassis to convince.
But what could drive the point is mainly in the approval of this vehicle. The 508 PSE concept benefits from the advantages of plug-in hybrids, with real efficiency and possible travel in 100% electric mode up to 50 km (WLTP).
With an approval largely under 100 grs of CO2, the series version will escape the ecological penalty.
The production of the production model is scheduled for 2020.
