Tesla said it was confident Wednesday to deliver more than 500,000 vehicles in 2020, an increase of 36% over one year. Production of the Model Y SUV has already started and production rates at its Chinese factory in Shanghai are increasing.
The electric vehicle manufacturer explains that production of the Model Y started this month at its California factory in Fremont, which should bring the number of cars leaving this site to 400,000 units per year. But by mid-2020, the capacity of this plant should reach 500,000 units.
Tesla plans to deliver the first Model Ys by the end of March and start production in Shanghai in 2021. The first deliveries of its cars produced at its European plant in Berlin will take place from 2021. The optimism of the charismatic group Elon Musk was also enhanced by better than expected results in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Hailed results
Tesla generated a net profit of 105 million dollars (102.19 million francs), certainly up 2.5%, but reported per share and excluding exceptional items, reference in North America, it is 2.14 dollars (2.08 francs), much higher than the expected 1.72 dollar.
Quarterly sales for its part increased by 2.2% to 7.38 billion (7.18 billion francs), above expectations (7.02 billion). These results were hailed on Wall Street where the title jumped by almost 7% in electronic exchanges after the close of the session. It has been burning continuously for several weeks.
Tesla has thus become the first American car group on the stock market before General Motors and Ford and the second world after Toyota, with a capitalization of nearly 105 billion dollars Wednesday evening.
Innovation and protection
The business community increasingly believes in the promise of its general manager Elon Musk to make Tesla the automotive benchmark for the next few years. The brand is notably associated with technological innovation and the protection of the planet with its promise that its vehicles are and will remain the most ecological on the market. (Ps / nxp)
