“Automatic turning bed to prevent pressure sores” is a new invention for society created and developed by a professor in the Faculty of Nursing. Thammasat University (TU) has received a lot of interest. from the participants “Thammasat 90 Years of Innovation for the People Research Fair” held between 10-11 September 2024 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

That’s because the automatic turning bed to prevent pressure ulcers is an innovation that supports effective care for bedridden patients. It is correct according to academic principles and can solve the Pin Point that many households suffer from.

The automatic turning bed to prevent pressure sores was developed by Dr. Prof. Jinpitcha Sathiyamas, Lecturer, Faculty of Nursing Thammasat University As head of a research project with an organization funded by the National Research Council (NRCT) through the Science Promotion Fund. Research and Innovation (NRCT) by combining 2 sciences together, including advanced nursing science in caring for bedridden patients and engineering science in the production of “Prototype innovation ” to serve society

The highlight of this innovation is a bed that can be turned to the desired angle to allow bedridden patients to move their body and prevent pressure sores. The bed will be controlled through a tablet application developed by the Thammasat research team. This will help both the caregiver and the patient.


The main parts of the bed are divided into 2 parts: 1. The part of the bed that can be positioned on the left and right side. Use the controls via the touch screen of your phone/tablet. The bed can be tilted on its side from 0 to 30 degrees, and the headboard can be adjusted to raise it at an angle from 0 to 60 degrees, and the knee joints can be bent at an angle from 0 to 45 degrees support weight of 100 kilograms. According to the standards and has passed standard tests IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2.

The carer will be able to come in and take care of you. This will help reduce the problem of inflammation from moisture and infections.


Prof. Dr. Jinpitcha He went on to say: Currently, this Thammasat innovation has been used with at least 250 patient cases in the area around Thammasat University, Rangsit Center, and communities in Pathum Thani Province, giving a -into be used at Thammasat University Hospital. For this innovation Production costs 40,000-50,000 baht Thammasat University has already registered a small patent.
