Automatic Creativity: New Media Art Exhibition Explores the Intersection of Technology and Art

The artworks of the international exhibition “Automatic Creativity” depict the importance of modern technology and automated processes in shaping the perception, identity and well-being of society and the individual, as well as the unconscious, automatic actions that a person develops when adapting to the performance of a machine.

In a poetic video installation, Estonian artist Taavi Suisalu sheds light on the mutual communication between devices for the maintenance of electronically mediated human communication and relationships.

Artist Gustavs Lotiks working in Liepāja reveals the constructions of artificial intelligence’s creative reality in multi-layered large-format digital graphic works, while Ukrainian artist Oleksandrs Sirous has constructed a decentralized archive in virtual reality from the automatically collected data of the bodies of his compatriots as a monument to the painful existence of his people.

On the other hand, the artist Krista Dzudzilo has captured a moment in the practice of a performing artist, where routine and creativity meet, the accuracy of bodily performance and the interpretation of sound in the imagination.

The exhibition was created within the framework of the new media art festival “UPDATE”, inviting recognizable artists from various countries and art industries to reflect on the processes of automation of creativity together with new media artists and designers from Latvia and abroad.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on February 15 at 6 p.m.
