About World Zoonoses Day
July 6 has been designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “World Zoonoses Day”. The date commemorates a historical event that occurred in 1885, when the scientist Louis Pasteur applied the first rabies vaccine in France to a person who had been bitten by a rabies-infected dog. Thanks to this vaccine, the person managed to survive. This celebration reminds us of the importance of preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases, which are transmitted between animals and humans.
