Rovereto, the motorist had found a promotion that allowed him to save: the fake seller was reported by the local police
A motorist from Trentino he discovered he had been a victim of a scam thanks to an inspection by the local police of Rovereto. In fact, he had identified the man online contact with a subject who presented himself as an agent of a well-known insurance company, which offered him an advantageous policy. Following the instructions received on the phone, the person made a payment, convinced that she had taken out the insurance through a website that appeared to be the same as that of the company.
No contract
However, insurance didn’t actually exist. The fake agent, once he has pocketed the money, he had not stipulated any contract, even though all the documents had been sent to him, so much so that at the time of the check he showed both the coupon and the payment. The agents then started a series of investigations to trace the identity of the fraudster who was reported.
The cheat
The local police noticed the scam when the motorist showed all the details of the policy but the license plate of his car did not correspond to any coverage. The Judicial Police Unit through a cross-check on the IBANs it was therefore ascertained that the payment had not been made directly to the insurance company but to the current account of the alleged sales agent. The attacker was then reported: they are underway further investigations to understand whether there are other parties involved and how many scams there may be. The investigations, moreover, averted the possibility that the motorist, if he had been involved in an accident, found himself without coveragewith much more serious consequences. In Italy it is estimated that every year there are at least two million people targeted by scams on insurance policies.
