Auto – Rüsselsheim am Main – Works council ignored: fine imposed on Opel – economy

Darmstadt / Rüsselsheim (dpa) – The Darmstadt Labor Court has imposed a fine of 135,000 euros on the car manufacturer Opel for not being a member of the works council on transfers and changes in working hours. According to its own statements, the employee representatives went to court in 27 cases and saw their legal opinion “fully confirmed”. Due to previous violations, an enforceable legal title was already in place, according to a leaflet to the employees, about which the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” first reported (Tuesday).

The company says it wants to take legal action against the decision. The basis of the decision is an older court settlement between Opel and the works council on the general compliance with rights of co-determination in the case of transfers and changes in working hours. Opel now wants to get rid of this comparison because it puts the company in a worse position in cases in which those affected fully agree with the changes.
