Powell’s ineffection with his own Republican Party began in 2008 when he endorsed Barack Obama and for the first time only grew over time. He was never a conservative, but a center-right man who left over time.
He is not remembered, however, but for his positions on politics, but for a long, subsequent career of service in a country he loved and which benefited from his devotion. REST IN PEACE.
