What once served as a centre for the study, development and promotion of the region’s economy and creative industry, the now defunct O’Higgins Crea Corporation, has now become a gloomy, lonely and unsafe space, despite the fact that the regional government injected resources into it and that today it is of no use to society.
This unknown building where the corporation operated is located on Adelaida Calvo Street, No. 55 in the city of Rancagua, and, according to some neighbors accompanied by the Regional Councilor, Lenin Arroyo, it has become an abandoned and unsafe den for the residents of the sector, since it was the object of a robbery in recent days.
According to Arroyo, 1.3 billion pesos were invested in this Corporation through financing, but the budget was reduced to 700 million and later a budget adjustment was made, leaving it without money, and in addition to that, all the staff was fired.
The councillor said that this property is a fiscal residence, owned by National Assets (BBNN) and assigned to the aforementioned corporation, and had been the object of theft of items and goods that were inside it.
“The regional government filed a complaint with the PDI and we do not know what was stolen, but there are rumors that there were computers…” said Arroyo, demanding information about the objects that were inside the defunct O’Higgins Crea Corporation.
Lenin Arroyo called on the regional minister of National Assets and Governor Pablo Silva Amaya to assign this house to Autismo Rancagua, an institution that is operating in a completely overcrowded house due to the large number of children and adolescents that they care for on a daily basis.
AUTISM RANCAGUA REQUESTS THIS PROPERTY
Elizabeth Escobedo, director of Autismo Rancagua, explained that the institution is going through a difficult situation, as they are caring for children from 2 to 12 years old, as well as young people up to 26 years old, so she believes that they should separate older autistic children from younger ones, due to the limited space available at the institution.
Escobedo said that they have not received a response from any institution, but affirmed that they informed him that “it had been assigned again (for five more years) to O’Higgins Crea and today I find out that it does not exist.”
“We are three houses away and we could have control of both houses to be able to separate the children and generate more projects with the adults, because we have 640 on the waiting list,” he added.
The director of Autismo Rancagua confessed that “I have a political veto with this government, for having reached the President of the Republic, who called three ministers in particular, the Minister of Education, Social Development and Health, who summoned them in the Public Account, where he said that he did not agree with the poor implementation of the life of autism.”
Escobedo requested the allocation of this property, since the current building where Autismo Rancagua operates was a destroyed building, which was converted into a therapy center and “with this one we could do the same, and we work every day to achieve our goal.”
NEIGHBORS THREATENED BY INSECURITY
Carmen Moreno, a resident of the sector, urged the regional and national government to give this house to Autismo Rancagua, because after more than 30 years of living in this neighborhood, she witnessed the transformation and use that was given to the headquarters of this institution, which was significant.
Moreno said that insecurity and robberies are frequent in the area surrounding the headquarters of the former O’Higgins Crea Corporation, since it borders the patio of his house and there are many constant noises that can be heard late at night.
He insisted on calling on the authorities to implement more security in the area, because the residents feel helpless, especially at night.
GOVERNOR RESPONDS
The regional governor, Pablo Silva Amaya, responded to the complaint made by the regional councilor and authorities of Autismo Rancagua, as well as the neighbors, about the robbery at the headquarters of the O’Higgins Crea Corporation, in which he stated that it is “a common robbery” and referred to the fact that sometimes people lie and inflate things when they are not right.
He denied that computers containing privileged information had been stolen, and therefore recommended getting used to “delivering information correctly, doing things as they should be, and we will be calm.”
The regional leader indicated that there are certain sectors that are dedicated to lying and inflating things in ways that are not appropriate.
“We are dedicated to working and doing things right,” he said, and reported that the Investigative Police (PDI) conducted the investigation and there are fingerprints that indicate who the robbers were and that keeps them calm.
