Authorities report that he drowned at the beach – El Financiero

Julián Ortega, actor of the series Élite, died at the age of 41, according to the Union of Actors and Actresses of Spain: “Our most sincere condolences to the actor’s family and friends.”

The Madrid-born actor is remembered for productions such as Caronte (2020), Nunc Et in Hora (2010), Las chicas del cable (2019) and Élite (2018), in which Mexican Danna Paola also participated.

Actress Helena Lanza sent him a message on Instagram this Monday: “In shock since this morning. I can’t believe it. What a huge pain. Julián, I will always remember you. An empathetic, good, generous, intelligent, talented person… How I enjoyed watching him on stage and how I loved sharing shots with him. How many talks together and how much we have laughed. Farewell, friend.”

What did Julian Ortega die of?

According to ABC de Sevilla, sources from the Barbate City Council confirmed that his death occurred this Sunday: he drowned on the beach of Zahora, in the province of Cádiz, Spain.

The newspaper La Voz de Cádiz explains that the 112 Emergency Center was alerted by several witnesses at 5:30 p.m. to report that a man had been pulled from the sea apparently drowned; health authorities and local police later confirmed his death and he was subsequently identified as Julián Ortega Rodríguez.

Who was Julian Ortega?

Julián Ortega was born in 1983, son of actress Gloria Muñoz and director José Antonio Ortega. He studied at the Royal School of Dramatic Arts in Madrid and his career began in the 1990s; he made his debut in the film El otro barrio, by Salvador García Ruiz, at the age of 12.

He was a Spanish celebrity for his participation in productions such as El Pueblo, directed by Alberto and Laura Caballero. In the Netflix series Élite, Julián Ortega appears in six episodes in 2018 as the manager of ‘La Cabaña’; while in Las Chicas del Cable he is agent Escobar.

Julián acted with his mother in the play Ira, at the Teatro Español, which he wrote himself. He also directed productions such as The Marijuana Monologues, One of Pirates, Genet’s Criadillas or The Knight of Olmedo (not Lope’s, the other one).
