Authorities report 285 new infections of COVID-19

Without any death being reported in the last 24 hours, the Dominican Republic registered 285 new infections of COVID-19 this Sunday, with which there are already 351,738 people who have contracted the disease and 4,012 fatalities.

According to health authorities, the country has 5,226 active cases and the provinces that reported the most infections during this day were Santiago (55), Distrito Nacional (46), Santo Domingo (43), Puerto Plata (27) and San Cristóbal (24) .

The epidemiological bulletin issued this September 5 establishes that 3,761 tests were processed to detect the virus, as well as 1,983 follow-up samples from patients already infected, of which 4,235 were ‘Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and 1,509 antigen .

To date, 342,500 infected have overcome the virus, when 1,973,448 tests have been carried out that have ruled out 1,621,710 cases.

Accumulated positivity stands at 5.62%, while fatality remains at 1.14%.

Regarding hospital occupation, 430 patients are admitted in stable conditions, 141 in intensive care units, while 85 are connected to ventilators. While 38,050 people under the age of 20 have been infected with COVID-19, as well as 1,409 health workers and 1,228 pregnant women.

The risk groups continue to be people with comorbidities and according to the official statistical document, 25.27% of the deceased suffered from hypertension and 15.78% from diabetes.
