Authorities have strengthened road safety in Qatar; Traffic violations decrease | Gulf News | Qatar Road | Traffic | Gulf News | News from the Middle East

Traffic violations have started to decrease in Qatar. In December 2021, 1,96,185 violations were registered, while last December it decreased to 76,160 cases. 61.2 decrease year-on-year. This is an indication of increasing road safety in the country. On a monthly basis, there is a decrease of 35.5 percent compared to November 2022. Last November, 1,18,117 traffic violations were registered in the country. A significant reduction in traffic violations and accidents while increasing new vehicle registrations indicates that the comprehensive measures taken in ensuring road safety are effective.

The Transport Department is adopting schemes aimed at reducing the road accident death rate. There has been a significant decrease in the number of speeding violations among traffic violations. From 1,45,226 cases in December 2021, it has come down to 27,818 cases in December 2022. The year-on-year decrease is 80.9 percent and the month-on-month decrease is 56.4 percent. Last November, 63,779 speeding violations were reported. Violations related to traffic warning signs also decreased by 54.6 percent year-on-year. In December 2021, there were 2,428 cases, down from 2,169 last December. Violations related to traffic movement and speed limit also decreased significantly in December. Only violations related to overtaking, license and stand and wait rules saw a year-on-year increase.

Overtaking violations increased from 159 in December 2021 to 229 in December 2022. License violations increased from 44 in December 2021 to 64 this past December. Violation of stand and wait rules increased from 14,576 in December 2021 to 18,565 last December. The annual increase is 27.4 percent. Meanwhile, 992 vehicle accidents took place in December. 19 people died. 46 were serious and 927 minor accidents. Radars have been installed across the country to detect violations such as speeding, using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seat belts. Apart from that, the patrolling of officers is also strong. Authorities remind the public to follow traffic rules to ensure road safety and reduce accidents.
