Agents of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, assigned to the Arrests and Extraditions division, assumed custody of a man, identified as Isaias Medina Colón34 years old and resident of the municipality of Ponce, against whom there was an extradition order from the state of Ohio for attempted rape and serious sexual imposition.
According to the Uniformed report, Medina Colon had been arrested by Task Force of the US Marshalls and delivered to the Arrests and Extraditions division for the processing of the order.
He was admitted to the Bayamón prison awaiting the extradition process.
Agent Ricardo Morales under the supervision of Sergeant Luana Colón, assigned to the Special Arrests division, were in charge of the investigation.
Coast Guard returns 58 migrants to the Dominican Republic after interdiction near Puerto Rico
The crew of the Coast Guard cutters, Joseph Doyle and Joseph Napier, repatriated 58 migrants to the Dominican Republic between Saturday and Monday, after the interdiction of an irregular and unauthorized trip in the waters of the Mona Passage, near Puerto Rico.
On Saturday, the crew of the cutter Joseph Doyle handed over 56 migrants to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel, while on Monday, the cutter Joseph Napier repatriated the group’s two remaining migrants to a Dominican Navy vessel near Punta Cane.
The interdiction occurred Wednesday night, when the crew of the cutter Joseph Doyle sighted a dangerously overloaded makeshift vessel in the waters of the Mona Passage east of Mona Island, Puerto Rico. The crew boarded the 58 migrants, which included 42 men and seven women who claimed to be citizens of the Dominican Republic, seven men and one woman of Haitian nationality, and one man of Venezuelan nationality.
“Human trafficking in the Mona Passage is a dangerous and ill-advised undertaking,” said Lt. Commander David Radin, commanding officer of the cutter Joseph Doyle. “Traffickers will be identified and prosecuted, and migrants will be repatriated to their country of origin or returned to the country from which the journey originated. To those considering undertaking one of these trips, we say don’t do it. Instead, seek safe and legal avenues for migration.”
Migrants intercepted at sea or detained on land will not be able to stay in the United States or a U.S. territory. Additionally, those who arrive illegally may be declared ineligible for legal immigration permit options and will be repatriated to their country of origin or returned to the country of departure.
