The President of the Indian Ocean island nation of Comoros was “slightly injured” in a knife attack while attending the funeral of a religious leader on Friday, his office revealed today.
The injuries to the President, Azali Assoumani, were not serious, so he has already returned home, his office said in a statement, cited by the Associated Press.
According to the France-Presse group, the person who carried out the attack died on Friday, prosecutor Moroni announced today, at a press conference in the capital city of the small islands in the Indian Ocean.
“He was alone in a room so he could rest yesterday (Friday) after his arrest. Investigators found him unresponsive this morning. A doctor said he was dead,” said prosecutor Ali Mohamed Djounaid, at Moroni’s court.
“An investigation has been opened to find out the reasons for his death, he said.
