Bart Plouvier, a pseudonym of Bart Van Schaeren, made his debut in 1987 with the collection of short stories ‘De maquette’, but that debut was preceded by a richly filled life. Before that, Plouvier was a folk musician, among other things, and in the 1970s he made a living as a bartender, gardener, construction worker, factory worker, cook, brewer’s guest, musician in Bobbejaanland,… In the early 1980s, Plouvier started working as a sailor on a sea tug. and started writing.
“The sun rains copper nails”
Plouvier has built up a varied oeuvre, ranging from novels to short stories, theater texts, children’s books and poetry. In recent years, more specifically since his retirement, Plouvier has mainly concentrated on his poetry. His last three collections of poetry were published by Friday publishers. His last collection of poems ‘The sun rains copper nails’ was published there last summer.
Prices
Plouvier has won several literary nominations and prizes over the years. In 1995 he made the long list of the AKO Literature Prize with ‘Het gelag’. He won the Lode Baekelmans Prize in both 1994 and 2000 and was awarded the Provincial Prize for Literature of the Province of East Flanders in 2003 for his collection of travel stories ‘Het land van tante Marie’.
