In August 2024, 14 young people from Upper Austria experienced a special adventure. Inspired by the well-known YouTube format “7 vs. WILD”, they embarked on a 72-hour survival challenge in the Swedish wilderness. The young people were dropped off in teams of two at seven remote locations in an untouched forest area by a lake in southern Sweden. Your mission: to survive in the wilderness for 72 hours. They were only allowed to take ten items with them, some of which were essential, such as a sleeping bag, first aid kit and knife. They were allowed to choose the rest themselves – according to their personal preferences and survival strategies.
Shelter construction and daily challenges
A central element of the challenge was the construction of a weatherproof shelter, the so-called “shelter”. Surrounded by nature, the young people had to make do with the materials they found or could process using the equipment they had brought with them. Every day they were also confronted with two new tasks that they had to solve using only the resources available.
Safe and good preparation
Before the young people set off into the wilderness, the selected locations were carefully inspected to ensure that all participants could operate under the best conditions. Based on this information, a comprehensive security concept was developed. A communication system with radios and a 24-hour emergency team guaranteed that, if an emergency occurred, help could be reached within 15 minutes.
Series on YouTube
During the 72 hours, the young people filmed their experiences themselves with action cameras and recorded their challenges and experiences in the Swedish wilderness. The survival adventure will be in several episodes on YouTube as a series released, and the first episode is already available online.
