An 82-year-old man had his bad leg amputated in an Austrian hospital, the affected health care facility reported on Thursday.
The management of this hospital in Freistadt (north) explains that a “tragic error” occurred following a bad marking of the leg to be eliminated. The confusion only came to light when the bandages were removed.
The patient must undergo another operation to remove the diseased leg. The man suffered from various ailments in both legs but one was clearly more banged up.
The patient and his family received psychological assistance.
“We are doing everything to clarify this case by checking internal procedures and questioning” (the various stakeholders), the hospital said in a statement.
