Kellermayr had been repeatedly interviewed by Austrian media to defend the corona measures, including lockdowns and mandatory vaccinations. She drew the ire of anti-vaccination activists for this. They threatened her with death, not only via the internet but also personally in her general practice. She therefore decided to close her practice a month ago.
The woman received police protection, but according to her environment did not feel sufficiently supported. She herself would have spent about 100,000 euros on protection. Her lifeless body was found Friday in her practice in the Upper Austria region.
Flowers have already been laid out and candles lit for the doctor’s practice and for the Ministry of Health in Vienna. Several vigils are held throughout the country. Commemorations will be held in Steyr and the capital Vienna, among others. Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen has also spoken out. “Let’s put an end to this intimidation and fear mongering. Hate and bigotry have no place in our Austria,” he said.
Controversial plan
Last month, Austria pulled the plug on a controversial plan to make Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory for all adults. The decision to withdraw the plan came after months of protests over lockdowns and mandatory vaccinations in the country.
