Not too many Western visitors come to Russia now. Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, who once danced with Russian President Putin at her wedding, is apparently unfazed by his war on Ukraine.

NTV reports on its website that Kneisl is currently living in a Russian village and praises the “wonderful atmosphere” there.

Karin Kneisl is enthusiastic about rural life in Russia

Russian platform Vidsboku quoted Kneisl’s rave reviews of life in the Russian village, made during a festival held there. It’s a “super nice atmosphere,” she said in clumsy Russian during the celebration.

She liked the way the children played. The ducks, the geese, the goats – that was exactly her world.

According to Austrian newspaper Kurir, Kneisl is currently spending the summer in the Russian village of Petrushovo in central Russia, several hundred kilometers southeast of Moscow.

In the remote village, however, she is “anything but secluded and has already met many of the residents.” It is also reported that Kneisl had already visited a Russian steam bath with one of the residents of the village.

Kurir newspaper notes that Kneisl rented a summer house in Petrushovo, about 350 km southeast of Moscow. “I’ve booked her for another month, then we’ll see what happens,” Kneisl says, without revealing how long she’s been there. It is said that in the Russian village she is also writing a book about the current situation in Europe.

Will he head a Russian think tank?

Pravda newspaper quotes the former foreign minister, who had no intention of returning to Austria, as saying:

“I had to give up my previous life, start over, and at 60 years old that’s not easy.” In June, it was announced that Kneisl would head a newly created think tank in St. Petersburg. She would also teach geopolitics at St. Petersburg University.

She herself does not rule out the possibility of accepting Russian citizenship in the future. For now, however, he had to learn Russian first.

Also in June, Kneissl visited an economic forum in St. Petersburg, where, according to the forum’s program, she discussed with deputies from the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany how to support Russia’s position abroad.
