Nehammer on Monday became the first EU leader to meet with Putin since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Saturday, Nehammer said his conversations with Putin were not “friendly” but “frank and loud.”
“I think he is now in his own logic of war. He thinks war is necessary for security guarantees for the Russian Federation. He doesn’t trust the international community. He blames Ukraine for the genocide in the Donbas region,” he was quoted as saying. Business InsiderSunday (17/4/2022).

Nehammer said earlier this week that he was not very optimistic after his talks with Putin.
“I explained to Mr Putin, his attitude, his views are not shared by anyone,” Nehammer said at a news conference in Moscow.
