According to Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer, the EU’s policy of granting asylum to migrants allegedly failed.
“Due to the growing number of illegal attempts to cross the border, we are forced to significantly strengthen our forces on the borders with Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia,” added Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner.
According to ORF, 22 thousand people were detained in an attempt to illegally cross the border in Austria in 2020, while in the first half of 2021 – already 16 thousand. At the moment, there are already about 1,000 soldiers on the Austrian border.
