Austria vs Neulengbach: Thrilling 2-2 Draw in Bundesliga Match

Sunshine and around 20 degrees awaited the violets on Saturday afternoon. Austria began to inspire – after just a few minutes, a cross from Jacqueline Hajek came well into the penalty area, but she did not find a taker (3rd). Then bitter moments followed: After an unfortunate handball, the referee Braunschmidt gave an immediate penalty, and Neulengbach took the lead through Panakova (8th). This was the first agreed goal in the Bundesliga in the 2024 calendar year.

The Violets did not bury their heads in the sand and played straight for the tie. After a corner, Verena Volkmer got a header, but he put it too central (15′). It was a fair game where both teams did not give each other anything. However, there weren’t many significant chances to score either, and the ladies in purple went into the break with a 0-1 deficit.

Ziletkina and Mauly equalize twice

Coach Stefan Kenesei responded and brought Alisa Ziletkina into the game for Anna Schorn. The second half started exactly as Austria wanted: they were pushing for equality, Dominique Bruinenberg (47th) and Yvonne Weilharter (48th) had good chances. The beating was in the air.

Then a final relief: Joker Ziletkina was involved in a running duel after a long ball from goalkeeper Larissa Haidner and got the equalizer (69th). A few minutes later, Ziletkina had a great chance to take the lead after Hajek’s cross, but her header missed the goal (71′).

After that, the game became more and more heated, and the finish was quick and easy. First Neulengbach managed to make 1:2 (88′) while Weilharter was injured on the ground. But the Violets hit back in stoppage time: substitute Antea Batarilo went into the penalty area, where Lea Mauly used the second ball (90 + 1).

Although the Violets conceded more than one goal in a competitive game for the first time since 14 October 2023, they have gone unbeaten in eleven games across all competitions since that very day.
