After the seventh game of the current championship round, the team from Styria had bagged the runner-up title of the 2021/22 season. Coach Christian Ilzer had emphasized that they still didn’t want to give away the rest of the season.
In the 2-1 victory in Klagenfurt, this also worked perfectly. A big party was being prepared in Graz for the last home game of the season against Wolfsberger AC.
The stadium was sold out for the first time this season. But the hosts disappointed their fans immensely, especially in the first half, and were already 3-0 down after 25 minutes.
So the coach decided after a good half hour for a change of three. In the end it was a bitter 1: 4 home defeat. Ilzer was very disappointed after the game and spoke of the worst game of the season.

The WAC coldly exploited the weaknesses of its men. His team didn’t have the necessary presence. After all, the reaction of the players in the second half was okay.
As runners-up, the “Blackies” can play in the third qualifying round for the Champions League next season and have to survive two rounds before the group stage.
This year, the SK Sturm as clear number 2 established in Austria. With 19 points, they set a new club record for their champions group – and that already two laps before the end.
