Austrian police announced today that they had arrested two men, one of whom was just 19, who were planning a terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.
An Austrian man who “pledged allegiance” to the Islamic State jihadist group was arrested this morning in the town of Ternitz, Police Chief Franz Ruf announced at a press conference. “We discovered preparatory actions that focused on Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna,” he explained, adding that “chemical substances” were found and confiscated at the 19-year-old’s home.
The young man was in contact with another suspect, who was arrested a few hours later in the Austrian capital.
Security measures will be tight in the coming days, especially at Taylor Swift’s concerts scheduled for the next three days in Vienna, which will attract around 65,000 spectators each, Viennese police chief Gerhard Pirstl assured.
Austrian authorities have been put on high alert following the attack launched by a jihadist on November 2, 2020 in Vienna, which left four dead and 23 injured. It was the first terrorist attack with an Islamist background in this country of 9.1 million people.
