Austria – These are the Instagram stars among the waterfalls

This was the result of an evaluation by the media observer and PR service provider APA-Comm, for which over 200 Austrian waterfalls and their hashtag presence on the Instagram social network were analyzed.

The Krimml Waterfalls offer visitors numerous photo opportunities, as they are the highest waterfalls in Austria, falling in three cascades over 380 meters into the valley. A four-kilometer hiking trail and numerous viewpoints invite you to like-ready selfies.

Myra falls popular

The Myra falls in Lower Austria, which occupy second place in the ranking with 12,200 entries, also prove to be particularly “likeable”. With a height difference of 70 meters, the Myra Falls are very popular with both influencers and urban day-trippers. The 27 bridges and risers over the Myra Falls have been open to tourists since 1885 and have been attracting numerous visitors from Germany and abroad every year since then.

With 7,886 postings, the Tyrolean Stuibenfall takes third place in the ranking. The 159 meter high Stuibenfall is not only considered to be the highest waterfall in Tyrol, but also one of the best developed. The meter-high “dusting” water, which gives the Stuibenfall its name, can be experienced up close via an adjacent path and step construction. For the particularly brave, there is an exposed 80-meter-long suspension bridge and a via ferrata right next to the waterfall.

Fourth place went to the Gollinger waterfall in Salzburg’s Tennengau (7,223 posts). The waterfall, which rises directly from a cave, reaches a height of 76 meters over two cascades. The upper step is spanned by a natural bridge that can be reached through a forest path. On Instagram, the smaller lower level is a particularly popular photo motif.

In fifth place is the Upper Austrian Traunfall, whose hashtag reached 4,847 entries on Instagram. The artificially fortified waterfall runs over a distance of 200 meters diagonally from the left to the right bank of the river and reaches a height of about twelve meters.

What is striking about the evaluation are the many domestic waterfalls, which have few or no entries on the social media platform. “Half of the waterfalls analyzed have posted fewer than ten posts so far,” says Manuel Kerzner, media analyst at APA-Comm.
