Austria: Taylor Swift’s three concerts canceled after terror plot arrests – 2024-08-09 03:37:12

The organizers announced tonight the cancellation of the three concerts that the American singer Taylor Swift would give in the next few days in Vienna, citing security reasons.

A few hours earlier, it was announced by the Austrian police that two men, one of whom was only 19 years old, were arrested for planning a terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.

An Austrian man who “pledged allegiance” to the Islamic State jihadist group was arrested this morning in the town of Ternitz, Police Chief Franz Ruf announced at a press conference. “We discovered preparatory actions that focused on Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna,” he explained, adding that “chemical substances” were found and confiscated at the 19-year-old’s home.

The young man was in contact with another suspect, who was arrested a few hours later in Vienna.

Austrian authorities have been put on high alert following the attack launched by a jihadist on November 2, 2020 in Vienna, which left four dead and 23 injured. It was the first terrorist attack with an Islamist background in this country of 9.1 million people.
