Austria has agreed to lift the block on the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia after Ukraine removed its bank Raiffeisen from the list of international war sponsors.

Details: First to unblock the sanctions package reported Brussels correspondent for Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak. He tweeted (X) that Vienna had “removed its warning” and the package would be adopted next week.
Meanwhile Reuters drew attention to the fact that the National Agency of Ukraine for the Prevention of Corruption removed Raiffeisen from the list of international war sponsors on its website. The fact that this agreement was part of the Vienna compromise was confirmed by the agency’s interlocutor in the EU.
The EU summit decision, published on Thursday, contained the phrase that EU ‘welcomes adoption’ 12th package of sanctions against Russia. But it later became known that a legal agreement had not yet been reached, and it Austria blocked due to Raiffeisen being declared an international sponsor of the war.
Let us recall that Raiffeisen is one of the most important financial channels in which Russian businesses carry out transactions in dollars and euros. Thanks to this, the bank receives huge profits, from which it then finances the budget of the aggressor country with its taxes.
It should be noted that Austria’s neighbor Hungary has been blocking the release of 500 million euros from the European Peace Fund, through which aid for Ukraine is financed, for months, due to the fact that the Ukrainian NAPC included the largest Hungarian bank, OTP Bank, in the list of “war sponsors.”
In early October, Ukraine seized OTP Bank from the listsatisfying one of key requirements of Budapest.
However, Hungary claims that Ukraine has not provided guarantees that the situation with OTP Bank or any other Hungarian enterprise will never happen again, and therefore continues to maintain its veto.
