Austria is free again!

Because the new infection rates are currently low, you can go out at any time.

Vienna. The first interim assessment after the measures against the spread of the coronavirus in Austria is good: the new infection rates are currently low and the reproduction rate is according to Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober at 0.59. This means that a person infected with coronavirus infects less than another person. Austria can be a bit freer again:

  • Starting May 1st, the exit restrictions will no longer apply. You can go out again at any time. But: The minimum distance of one meter must still be observed. The new regulation will apply until June 30th.

  • Accordingly, smaller events for up to ten people are again allowed. The physical distance must also be maintained here.

  • Up to 30 people can take part in funerals again.

  • Austria is easing the most in the EU area.

  • After all, all shops and hairdressers are allowed to open again on May 2nd.

In contrast to the Czech Republic, for example, there will only be a mask requirement in Austria in closed rooms.

However, Anschober continues to caution

Appeal. However, Anschober warns caution: “Unfortunately, the pandemic is not over yet. The measures are evaluated again and again. We can say stop at any time. “

If the new infection rates remain low in the next 14 days, there will be further easing: Outdoor zoos should be allowed to open again on May 15th.

Those in closed areas and sights should then be allowed to open their doors to the public again on May 29 – however, distance must be maintained everywhere.

30,000 notices and 3,600 penal mandates

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer announced yesterday that the police have filed 30,000 coronavirus related reports since mid-March. At the “peak”, there were 1,400 ads per day. There are now 300 a day across Austria. 3,600 organ punishment mandates – for example, due to non-compliance with the distance – were created.

May 2: All shops open – but with more customers

Shops with less than 400 square meters started in mid-April. From May 2, all shops – including the furniture trade and shopping center – can now reopen. Originally, it was said that there should be 20 square meters of space available for each customer. That has now been reduced to ten square meters per person.

Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck has thus accommodated the trade, which otherwise feared “the end of many shops”, as Christoph Andexlinger of the Spar European Shopping Centers had meant. Since in Austria, in contrast to other EU countries or the USA, there is a one meter distance and not a two meter distance in the public, retailers have also given in.

However, business must ensure distance

Masks. As in the smaller shops, salespeople and customers in all stores now have a mouth-and-nose protection obligation. The one meter distance must be maintained and hygiene measures – disinfectants – must also be ensured.
