Austria, Czech and Slovenia report cases of monkeypox

The Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia have announced the findings of their first cases of monkeypox on Tuesday (24/5/2022). In the Czech Republic, the disease was detected in a man at the Prague Military University Hospital. This was revealed by the Czech Head of Public Health for Infectious Diseases, Pavel Dlouhy. “It’s just a matter of time, we’ve been expecting this for days,” Dlouhy told AFP.

The Czech National Institute of Public Health said in a statement that the sick Czech resident had shown symptoms of the disease after returning from a music festival in Antwerp, Belgium in early May.

Meanwhile, in Austria, a man, who was admitted to a hospital in Vienna with symptoms of monkeypox, including fever, on Sunday (22/5/2022), was confirmed to have contracted the disease, the Vienna health authorities said.

Meanwhile, in Slovenia, a man, who developed symptoms after returning from the Canary Islands, has also been confirmed to have monkeypox, according to the country’s health authorities.
