The unique 1992 concert recording of Imants Kalniņš’s IV concert program was found in Austras Pumpure’s apartment, which remained at the disposal of the Austras Society for eternity after the singer left.
This is a very valuable find, admits Inese Muižniece, the project manager of the Austra Society. For example, the song “Well all love” with the music of Imants Kalniņš and the words of Andrejs Eglītis is beautiful and very rarely sung, emphasizes Inese Muižniece.
“This concert program was created in the early 90’s – we have just regained our freedom. Of course, the program also tells about this struggle and discussion, about the freedom of how to be and how we have fought for it. These are patriotic, Latvian songs about the homeland. For example, of the previously unpublished songs are “Well all love”, “In the Cathedral” with the words of Austras Skujiņa, the song “Like only” with the words of Valdis Rūmnieks, “says Muižniece.
“What are we arguing about here, what are we tearing up here, just like … On a circle, just after a long time …” are the words in the song “Just like that”.
Inese Muižniece, the project manager of the Austras Society, notes that the society has made valuable use of these unusual years, and the organization of events has been replaced by significant archiving and research into the heritage left by Austras Pumpure.
The landlord explains: “We watched various materials about Austru Pumpuri. We started with what is in her home. We discovered that there are video materials and cassettes – we digitized them and created an archive accounting system, where we will be able to collect and create various Austrian materials. While searching for some video material, we found audio discs. “
The association found both released and unlabeled discs, and this is how the unique record reached the listeners. Inese Muižniece reveals that it is amazing how little Austra Pumpure is recorded.
She had a huge swarm of songs, but it was passed from mouth to mouth rather than distributed in the recordings.
It is now stored in Austrasbērni.
“Then we started a pretty big detective to understand what it’s like to record where it’s done, what’s really going on there. Then there was a miraculous moment. We discovered that Imants Kalniņš IV’s concert program is on one disc. We found it at the beginning of the year, when we were creating Eastern Days in Liepaja. We managed before all this Covid thing and created a beautiful concert program. It was in March that we renewed this IV concert program. Therefore, the discovery that there is a program performed by Austras on this disc was a great miracle for us, ”emphasizes Muižniece.
It is the last of seven big concert programs that Austra Pumpure has performed as an artist of Liepaja Theater. She sang it with some chosen Austras children. Now this miracle with complicated and rarely heard songs, in the words of Inese Muižniece, is available to anyone interested in the Austrian Society. Homepage, where you can listen to the unique recording.
The album will not be widely sold – there will be a limited number of discs that can be purchased by contacting the Austra Society. At the same time, the Austras Society hopes to be able to implement the idea next year and go all over Latvia with this concert program, visiting the houses of culture.
“When we sang with Austras, then only rarely did someone turn on the dictaphone” quietly “in attempts, because it seemed that Austros didn’t really like it,” says Inese Muižniece. “I am also surprised that there are no recordings of Austra’s big (official Liepāja Theater) concert programs – there are only a few video materials that are stored on Latvian Television and that cover the concert program in incomplete length. That’s why these audio recordings are a really great discovery, because in a different way, Austra lived and met the audience in person, not on the Internet. ”
