Suara.com – Researchers at Australia create Covid-19 assay which can show results within 20 minutes using a blood sample and is claimed to be the first in the world.
Adapt South China Morning Post, (Friday 17/7/2020), researchers at Monash University said the test kits they made could also see whether someone had been infected with the corona virus in the past.
“The short-term application of this test tool for rapid identification of cases and contact tracing, while screening populations to determine the level of viral infection in the community is a long-term plan,” the researchers said in a paper published in the journal ACS Sensors.
The research team is led by BioPRIA and the Chemical Engineering Department of Monash University and consists of researchers from the ARC Center of Excellence at Convergent Bio-Nano Science and Technology (CBNS).
The test kit requires 25 microliters of plasma from a blood sample and then looks for agglutination or grouping of red blood cells caused by the corona virus.
According to the researchers, their device can test hundreds of samples every hour and they hope to be used to detect antibodies that increase after the vaccination test.
Researchers have also applied for patents and are seeking commercial and government support to increase production.
Until now, the corona virus has infected more than 13.8 million people worldwide and killed nearly 600,000 people since it appeared in China late last year.
