Twenty-seven-year-old Krejčíková dominated the match in one hour and 26 minutes. She hasn’t lost a set in the tournament so far, and she hasn’t allowed a third opponent more than five games in a row.
“I’m glad that I managed the three matches. I tried to concentrate on my shots, be aggressive, return well and serve. I succeeded. I played very reliably today,” said Krejčíková on the court.
The two-time winner of last year’s Roland Garros, Krejčíková, who was laboring with an injured wrist at the end of last season, had an excellent start to the match. Thanks to three quick breaks, she took a 5-0 lead in the first set and won the set in 39 minutes.
In the second set, Kalinin resisted longer. Krejčíková faced a break point in the fourth game, but she averted it and immediately won an important break. In the end, she broke her opponent’s serve once more and took advantage of the first match point.
“I’m happy to be here and I enjoy the support of the fans. It’s great to play in a place like Rod Laver Arena. I love playing on such big courts. I always give something more of myself there,” added Krejčíková.
Jiří Lehečka from the Czech representatives will also go to the event today. The native of Mladá Boleslav will challenge Cameron Norrie, the twelfth player in the world, in the 3rd round, with whom he has faced twice so far and each time lost 1:2 in sets. Last time was a week ago in Auckland in the second round.
