Twenty-three-year-old Rybakinová, who knocked out world number one Iga Šwiateková from Poland in the round of 16, won the tournament for the fourth time without losing a set. Against 17th seed Ostapenko, she collected 11 aces and 24 winning balls. The native of Moscow, representing Kazakhstan, made it to the Grand Slam semifinals for the second time, improving her previous record at the Australian Open.
Among the Czech players, Jiří Lehečka will be in action today, who will face world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old native of Mladá Boleslav can avenge last year’s defeat from the tournament in Rotterdam to his Greek rival and at the same time improve his current Grand Slam maximum. Among the Czech players, Tomáš Berdych last made it to the top four in Melbourne in 2015.
