Daniil Medvedev: The way to the semi-finals
Medvedev is already playing his best Australian Open – so far it was only enough for the Russian for the round of 16. At the beginning Medvedev celebrated two clear victories before he afforded his first insecurities on lap three.
Against Filip Krajinovic, he initially led easily 2-0 in sets, but then gave up two sets and first had to go into the decisive set in this tournament. There he showed no nakedness and moved into the round of 16 with a 6-0 in the fifth set.
Mackenzie McDonald, waiting there, was no threat to Medvedev. In the end there was a clear 6: 4, 6: 2, 6: 3 on the score sheet. In the quarter-finals he finally faced his compatriot Andrey Rublev, whom he swept off the court with an impressive performance. In three sets (7: 5, 6: 3, 6: 2) Medvedev won the duel and got stronger with each set.
