A backhand in the net sounded the death knell for Stan Wawrinka’s hopes in this quarter-final against Alexander Zverev. With this fault, the Swiss conceded a double break in the fourth set and saw Zverev fly to his first semi-final in the Grand Slam. Despite a fanfare start, Wawrinka did not last long against a German who served very well and who ended up suffocating him.
