Beijing
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has responded to statements by Australian businesspeople who have called for the tense Sino-Australian relationship to be eased through negotiations and diplomatic means. China hoped that the Australian government could listen to these and other reasonable voices and, moreover, do more to promote mutual trust and cooperation between China and Australia.
For some time now, the Australian government has repeatedly chosen provocative and confrontational statements and actions in relation to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Taiwan, thereby violating core Chinese interests. This has seriously damaged mutual political trust and the basis of cooperation between China and Australia, as Zhao Lijian stressed in front of the press in Beijing on Tuesday.
