Australian Embassy and Fedegan launch series of webinars to improve agriculture

From the second day of June, the Australian Embassy and Fedegan will host the ‘Australian Industry Innovations’ webinar series focused on agriculture and climate change.

The broadcast is called “Australian Beef Cattle. The
greenhouse gases. Carbon neutral, technologies and research ”, and has the objective of carrying out joint actions for the exchange of international technical collaboration.

The links between academia, industry and services
audiences by Australians will provide a fucking technological starting point. This hands-on approach to developing useful solutions, be they new products, processes or services, is what has made the Australian sectors of agriculture, mining and renewable industries become world leaders in sustainable growth.

Erika Thompson, Australian Ambassador to Colombia, mentioned that “Australia and Colombia share many challenges as we seek to build sustainable growth in the mining, energy and agricultural sectors. The series
‘Innovations of the Australian industry’, is an opportunity for us to bring to Colombia the research, technology and experience that has been developed in Australia. Working closely with local unions, we hope that the Australian experience can be adapted to help Colombia build sustainable growth. “

The virtual event will have as guests Margaret Jewell, manager of Carbon Neutral 2030 – Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), agricultural scientist with a doctorate in plant genetics and Gonzalo Martínez, research scientist of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (Csiro) , with a doctorate in the study of the effect of additives.

In addition, among the topics that will be observed in the webinar is the ‘Carbon Neutral 2030’ program, a government initiative
Australia, in which Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), a company that regulates standards for the handling of meat and livestock in the various markets, established the CN30 program with the goal of “becoming carbon neutral by 2030”.

The CN30 program roadmap includes several measures, such as the use of
dietary supplements to reduce enteric methane emission, new carbon accounting methods that consider soil fixation, reduction of burning in savanna areas, carbon fixation in the production of trees and shrubs as shelter and shade, planting of legumes for animal feed and increase of organic matter (and carbon) in the soil, among others.

Similarly, attendees will also be able to learn about how Australian livestock is developing focused on beef, greenhouse gases in livestock (methane) and what are the strategies to reduce them.

The goal of the webinar series will also be to share Australia’s technology and expertise to Colombia, benefiting the Colombian industry from work done in Australia.

For its part, the livestock union, led by José Félix Lafaurie, said that these meetings aim to promote the consumption of meat and milk from both nations in national and international markets, as well as the development of livestock with activities of Science, Technology and Innovation (CTeI), to improve the levels of sustainability (environmental, economic and social), animal welfare, food, genetics, health and associativity.
