Australian Coronavirus Spray Presses Viruses on Animals

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Studies show a drug spray corona made by Australian biotechnology company, Ena Respiratory is claimed to be able to reduce levels of the virus that causes it Covid-19 in the nose and throat. However, this research is still limited to animals.

Study results published on the website bioRxiv pre-publication research is done on ferrets. The study, led by scientists from Public Health England (PHE), shows that INNA-051 can reduce viral replication by up to 96 percent.

INNA-051 is a synthetic small molecule that is given by nasal spray once or twice a week. This spray drug can be used alone or used together as a complement to the Covid-19 vaccine program.

Quoted from page Pharmaceutical Technology, the treatment has the potential to boost the human immune system against the flu or the common cold.

Ena Respiratory hopes to quickly get this nasal spray into human clinical trials within four months. This step can be taken after this Australian company has obtained a positive toxicity study result and regulatory licensing.

Ena Respiratory Managing Director, Christophe Demaison said, the increased natural immune response of civets through this treatment shows confidence that the eradication of the corona virus can be done quickly.

“If [tubuh] humans respond in the same way, the benefits of this treatment will be manifold. “People who are exposed to the virus are likely to experience less, through treatment that ensures that the disease does not progress beyond mild symptoms,” said Christophe Demaison.

The company obtained around 8.24 million USD in funding from the Medical Research Commercialization Fund (MRCF) managed by Brandon Capital.

The research also involved funding from the Australian government, AustralianSuper, HESTA, Hostplus, StatewideSuper, biotech firms CLS and Uniseed.

Uniseed CEO, doctor Peter Devine said, the results of the animal study were very interesting and showed the potential uses of Ena Respiratory drugs in handling Covid-19, which requires many treatment approaches.

The company plans to raise additional funds to accelerate the clinical development and distribution of the Australian-made coronavirus syringe worldwide.

Disclaimer: this research still needs further and in-depth study before it can be determined as a drug to treat corona infection. WHO and the Ministry of Health have not yet recommended specific drugs for the cure of Covid-19.(Photo: CNN Indonesia / Timothy Loen)-
