Australia is preparing for a historic moment in its football: the inauguration of a Professional Second Divisionwhich will begin in October 2025. This new championship will offer an additional competitive platform to teams across the country, increasing opportunities for players and fans.
Tournament Format The tournament will feature 16 teams. Among them are eight founding clubswhich we see in the image, and the others will be selected from the National Premier Leagues (NPL) league from various regions to ensure diverse national representation. The competition will be divided into a group stagewith a total of 9 rounds of matchesfollowed by a system of playoffs that will determine the champion.
Cost and Travel Optimization
One of the main objectives of the league is minimize club travel to reduce operating costs and facilitate participation. The organizers have designed a format that limits the distance that teams must travel, making the competition more accessible and sustainable. The season will be played between October and December, and during the rest of the year, the clubs will continue competing in the NPL.
