Australia to spend 4.5 billion euros on infrastructure for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane

Australia will exceed a total of 7 billion Australian dollars to finance the infrastructure of the 2032 Olympic Games to be held in Brisbane. The State of Queensland will in particular inject 2.7 billion Australian dollars (€1.7 billion) for the redevelopment of its Cricket Ground stadium, also nicknamed “The Gabba”, which will increase its capacity to 50,000 seats.

Brisbane city center will also be equipped with a new 17,000-seat indoor stadium, worth 2.5 billion Australian dollars (€1.6 billion), financed by the federal government. And an amount of 1.87 billion (€1.2 billion), granted by the State and the federal government, will be devoted to 16 other new or modernized sites.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also said that 80% of the infrastructure for the Games was already in place. “It is clear that we must do our part, not only to deliver the best Games, but also to leave a lasting legacy for Queensland and all who visit this great State”said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

This is the third time after Melbourne (1956) and Sydney (2000) that Australia will host the Olympic Games.
