Australia to Remove CCTV Made in China from Government Buildings

Jakarta

Authority Australia will uninstall CCTV or the Chinese-made security cameras of some government buildings to make sure they are “absolutely secure.” This was announced by Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles today, Thursday (9/2).

Reported by the news agency AFPThis Thursday (9/2/2023), follows similar moves in the United States and Britain, which have both taken action to stop government departments from installing Chinese-made cameras at sensitive sites.

Britain acted in November last year because of concerns that the companies China can be forced to share intelligence with Beijing’s security services.

Security camera made in China installed in more than 200 Australian government buildings — according to official figures compiled by opposition politicians — including at least one run by the Department of Defence.

Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said officials would find and remove any cameras found in the Department of Defense’s vast collection of offices and facilities.

“This is an important matter that concerns us and we will fix it,” he told Australian broadcaster ABC.

“It’s important that we follow these practices and ensure that our facilities are completely secure,” he added.
