Australia reports new case of monkeypox – Xinhua English.news.cn

SYDNEY, June 3 (Xinhua) — Health authorities in the Australian state of New South Wales have detected a third case of monkeypox in a man who recently returned from Europe.

The man in his 50s developed mild symptoms several days after arriving in Sydney, before being tested for monkeypox virus after seeing his doctor with symptoms.

This case follows the first two cases in New South Wales, namely a man who returned from Europe on May 20 and a man who traveled to the Australian state of Queensland.

NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the three existing cases were unrelated, according to state contact tracers.

“Monkey pox does not pose a transmission risk to the general community,” Chant said on Friday. End
