Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Still struggling with COVID-19, Australia’s state of Victoria on Sunday reported 92 new locally-acquired cases of the coronavirus, hitting its highest number in nearly a year. In fact, the state of Victoria is home to a quarter of the country’s 25 million population.
In the past, Victoria and the neighboring state of New South Wales, as well as the Australian Capital region have been in lockdown for weeks, as authorities struggle to quell the spread of the highly contagious delta variant.
Also considering the sixth Victorian Lockdown since the beginning of the pandemic will end next week. This is also increasingly unlikely, as there are still 778 active COVID-19 cases in the state according to local health data.
However, with more than 49,000 cases and 993 deaths, Australia has kept its Covid-19 rate relatively low compared to a number of other countries.
