Kevin Joiner and Cam Faust were fishing on Sunday afternoon near Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory of theAustralia, in a mangrove area infested with crocodiles. When they heard calls for help from a man, who was covered in mud and mosquito bites, local media reported.
“We didn’t understand what he was doing there”Kevin Joiner told Nine News on Wednesday. “We thought he had a hectic New Year. “
The man was dehydrated and needed help, so the fishermen took him with them, gave him shorts, a beer and took him to Darwin, according to Joiner.
Armed robbery
But once in hospital, he was arrested for failing to respect his judicial review in an armed robbery case.
The two fishermen said they fell naked because the man told them he got lost walking around the area. He had survived several days in trees, including eating snails.
“It was while going to visit him at the hospital that we discovered this”said Cam Faust. Len Turner, a Northern Territory police official, confirmed to media that the man was being prosecuted in several cases.
“He is under arrest but is still at the Royal Darwin Hospital, where he is being treated for his self-inflicted ordeal”, he told NT News.
